SWOT evaluation on “Steampunk” project

Work completed: AD108 Final Toile
Strengths
-          What advantages did I have: because I got my pattern for my shirt design finished faster than other it gave me time to practice in the sewing rooms , and allowed me to develop my skill at a slow but steady pace.
-          What section of the work did I complete well:  I think the section I completed well was the pin tucks down the front section of the shirt although they did take time to complete I am happy with the outcome.
-          What was seen as my strength through this project (with in tutorials and results):  my strength through this section of work was my patients, as some sections needed to be completed more than once to get the effect that I wanted to achieve.
-          Which of my achievements in this project am I most proud of: once again my achievement I am most proud of is the pin tucks on the front of the shirt.

Weaknesses
-          What task did I avoided with in this project: the section I avoided was the sleeves I left this till the very end of the construction as I thought they would be the most difficult to complete.
-          What do other see as my weakness: my weakness would be the hem of the shirt as I found it difficult to manoeuvre the machine around the edge of the toile.
-          What are my negative work habits: my negative habits would be ironing the garment as an end result I stretched the fabric slightly.
-          What holds me back: the thing that holds me back would be my lack of machine skills.

SWOT evaluation on “Steampunk” project

Work completed: AD108 pattern cutting

Strengths
-          What advantages did I have: by not adding frills to my design it made it easier to complete as it was similar to the block, an advantage I did have during this section of work was working with the students around me passing knowledge on to each other about what we already knew.
-          What section of the work did I complete well:  the part of this work that I completed well was the basic outline of the pattern figuring out what needed to be were.
-          What was seen as my strength through this project (with in tutorials and results):  my strength was listening to what I was being told and then putting it in to practice.
-          Which of my achievements in this project am I most proud of: I am most proud of completing a successful pattern.

Weaknesses
-          What task did I avoided with in this project: the last I avoided was adjusting the sleeves as I found this the most complicated trying to find what sections I could manipulate and which sections needed to be the same as the basic block.
-          What do other see as my weakness: my weakness would be my lack of knowledge on pattern cutting but I have improved this skill through this project.
-          What are my negative work habits: my negative habits would be over thinking things there for making it seem more complicated than it really is.
-          What holds me back: the thing that holds me back is my lack of knowledge on patter cutting.
My own pattern.

SWOT evaluation on “Steampunk” project

Work completed: AD108 Portfolio work

Strengths
-          What advantages did I have: one of my advantages is the fact I had a basic idea of how I wanted my end product to look from the start it was just a matter of developing that basic idea, there for when it came to completing my portfolio work I chose images that would related to my design before I had even put it down on paper.
-          What section of the work did I complete well:  I think I have managed to show a link from one page to the next with this project allowing my work to look quite professional.
-          What was seen as my strength through this project (with in tutorials and results):  my strength for this section would probably be the fact I had a general idea of how I wanted everything to look so I planned it all out beforehand. This project is still on going.
-          Which of my achievements in this project am I most proud of: I am most proud of making a link between all my work whether it be through the pen I used or the colours I chose.

Weaknesses
-          What task did I avoided with in this project: the task I have avoided with this project is putting my own illustrations on my mood boards , once again I do not think they would look right with the images I have chosen, however I have created a small note book with sketches and development in it.
-          What do other see as my weakness: my weakness would be my drawing skills as they need improving before I add them to my boards, by doing so they will improve the body of work and not bring the end mark down.
-          What are my negative work habits: my negative habit would be using my home printer instead of the professional ones within college.
-          What holds me back: my drawing skills.

SWOT evaluation on “Steampunk” project

Work completed: AD108 Flat illustrations and design work

Strengths
-          What advantages did I have: One of the advantages I did give myself for this project was the idea that I was not going to create something that was overly complicated as my experience in making garments is limited and I did not want to end up with a design that I could not complete at the end.
-          What section of the work did I complete well:  I think with my flat drawings I completed the design process carefully I planned out my design and then chose sections from each design that I liked and continued to develop until I had an end product that I was happy with, by doing this it gave me time to really think about what I wanted my end product to look like and also allowed me to look in to the theme of Steampunk more.
-          What was seen as my strength through this project (with in tutorials and results):  I have not yet received my results from this project as it is still on going, but I believe that my strongest section was my annotation.
-          Which of my achievements in this project am I most proud of: I am most proud of my ability to keep organised as this ability has enabled me to keep on track with the rest of the project.

Weaknesses
-          What task did I avoided with in this project: the task I did try to avoid in this project was coming up with a complicated flat as by doing so there was a chance I would not be able to complete the end product.
-          What do other see as my weakness: I the thing that could be seen as a weakness is once again my choice in a simple design although I did have reason to do this others may see this as a sign that I am not pushing my skills.
-          What are my negative work habits: my negative habits on this section of work would be questioning my own designs.
-          What holds me back: specifically on this project my lack of machine and pattern cutting skills have held me back as I have referred back to them in the design process.

The Next Stage

Front.

Back.

Sleeve.

These images show the next stage in the development for my shirts design as you can see I have completed the back and front sections and also added one of the sleeves, when It came to adding the cuffs I did find it difficult as I used a similar technique as attaching the collar and it was tricky, I may try attaching the second one in a different style to see which is better. Steampunk is all about the hidden detail so I added pin tucks to the elbow patches to add that I think it creates a nice like with the front of the shirt and pulls the whole design together.
