My Evaluation of interviews for universities

Once completing all my interviews for university I thought that it would be a good idea to think back over the interviews and review them, by doing this I believe that it will give me a better idea of what one to choose as my next educational step.

Nottingham: Unsuccessful for interview
Leeds: Unsuccessful for interview due to no second year placements available.
Sunderland: when it came to the Sunderland interview it was fast and easy to get to the location of the interview. On arrival I signed in and was able to look around the gallery which is in the main entrance of the fashion building. After a sort wait a member of staff took the selection of people to interview up to the graphics department, I did find this quite strange as I thought we would be taken to the fashion area. One by one we were called in to be interviewed talking through are portfolios and handing over a copy of a selection of work on CD. I found this interview quite easy and relaxed compared to others in the past, there were not very many detailed questions and it was mostly me talking through me portfolio. After the interview we were all taken on a tour of the facilities which were mostly graphics and animation, in fact all the fashion rooms were closed off and the equipment available was not very impressive (i.e. an average of 6 sewing machines for all the fashion students at the university). Although the course did sound interesting and the mix of negotiation projects was interesting the overall atmosphere was not very impressive.

Manchester, first year placements only available: this was my first ever group interview, it took me 3 hours to get to Manchester with two transfers on the train. I arrived at Manchester 2 hours earlier than my interview to allow myself time to find the building (which was harder than I thought as no one knew where it was not even the students or teachers a few buildings away). After finding the building the interview process began once again I signed in and the students that arrived were separated in to groups of four were we left are portfolios in a room and continued on a tour with a current student.  When walking around the university I was impressed by the facilities and the friendly staff members, my only concern was that the university seemed better equipped for textiles and knitwear. When it came to the interview we all sat at a table and whet around one by one talking about one project in are portfolio, this allowed me to see the competition and also comment on other peoples work. During this interview I was told that my portfolio was very professional and that I might be dropping down a difficulty level by entering in to first year.

Northumbria: this was the most impressive interview that I have been on through this whole process. The first thing was leaving are portfolios on a table in the fashion rooms, and being taken on a tour of the workshops this was incredible impressive and immediately I felt at home. The second section of the interview was completing a series of questions and a drawing exercise, all of this is happening while people are being called in one after the other, the whole process took three hours and I was one of the last students to be interviewed.  During the interview it was very relaxed and the conversation flowed however there were some difficult questions and they did keep you on your toes through the whole process.
