Pattern Cutting
Equipment list:

-          Set square
-          Specification drawing
-          Scissors
-          Pencil
-          Rubber
-          Tape measure
-          Basic Dress Block
-          Basic Sleeve Block
-          Pattern paper
-          Masking tape

Step one: the first step in creating my pattern was to find a basic dress block and draw around it on to pattern paper. At this stage it is very important to copy over all the details on the basic block to make sure my copy was as accurate as possible.
To make this process go smother and also make it easier to alter I made sure the line followed the centre back/front on to the dots and crosses and also made sure the waist line was parallel to the dots and crosses of the centre front/back. To complete this first section I needed my specification drawing, a pencil, a setsquare and the back and front of a basic dress block.

Step two: it is very important to look back over your work and double check what you have done, I did this several times throughout this project it helped me to follow what I had already completed and also helped to avoid any future problems that I may of misses due to lack of attention.  This basic outline is the starting point for my whole garment and all my pattern drafts will be completed on this outline from here on.

Step three:  as my design is floor length and also has a train it was necessary for me to add extra paper to the bottom of my basic dress block pattern to allow me to extend the length of the pattern, I did this by using the set square to extend the centre back and front at the correct angle and then used the tape measure to check the length this gave me the desired look. In preparation to adding the extra pattern I used a fellow student and measured from their waist to the floor and added extra for the train. At this point I decided to add slightly more length to the pattern than necessary, as it is much easier to shorten the pattern than extend it further on in the project.
